 Councillor Angela Owen &
Qld Police Commissioner
Ian Stewart APM

in another local initiative in Calamvale Ward,

‘Community SAFE Day 2019’

Saturday 16 March 2019
10am-2pm
Calamvale Sports Hall
Hamish St, Calamvale QLD 4116

The purpose of the day is to provide a forum for local residents to access information on a variety of safety aspects which may assist their families.

Some of the categories will include;
  • Road Safety (including around schools)
  • Water Safety (including home pools and learn to swim)
  • Animal Safety
  • Personal Safety Childcare Form PDF.pdf
  • Home Safety (fire response and evacuation)
  • Health Safety (wellbeing and stress management)
  • Crisis Safety (dealing with impacts of domestic violence, homelessness and addiction)
  • Cyber & Fraud Safety (how to recognise scams)

Further sessions will be conducted during the day by the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services on a variety of topics.

I am delighted to announce that Brisbane's boxing Champion Jeff Horn will be delivering an anti-bullying session to assist young people.

Jeff held the WBO welterweight title from 2017 to 2018.  As a victim of school bullying, Jeff visits schools and community events to talk with kids about anti-bullying, leaving an impression on the students.  Bullying can leave a child feeling worthless, sad and doubted themselves, kids are surprised to hear even world champions went through tough times and got bullied.  Jeff encourages kids to believe in themselves and remember that they are not alone, and there is most likely someone else going through the same tough experience.

Street Edge and Krav4kids will be delivering children, teenager and women's safety sessions.  Street Edge Krav Maga is an effective self-defence training system conducted for urban environments.

Their core mission is to teach children and adults, to defend themselves in situations which are as close to real life scenarios that they may be confronted by.  They teach our students how to handle situations under excessive stress and learning the skills and knowledge to survive a violent and life-threatening attack. They don’t teach their students to fight…. they teach them to SURVIVE.

For those parents with young children and who wish to attend the day, onsite childcare will be provided by accredited Goodstart Early Learning professionals during this session only at no cost.

Please PRE-REGISTER your child by opening a childcare registration form: Click here and return the form to my office.

If you have any questions in relation to the day, please do not hesitate to contact my Ward Office via phone on 3131 7022, or email to calamvale.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au
