Working hard for Calamvale Ward

Active School Travel Program

Cr Angela Owen-Taylor Active School Travel ProgramBrisbane City Council's Active School Travel program aims to change travel behaviour to and from school. Families are encouraged to walk, cycle, scooter, car pool or use public transport to reduce traffic congestion around schools.
Applications for the 2013 program are closed. In late 2013 schools will be asked to register their interest for the 2014 program.
Spaces are limited and schools are prioritised on their willingness to work with Council to reduce car use and increase the numbers of students actively travelling to and from school.
Participating schools are allocated a dedicated Active School Travel officer who provides continuous guidance and support to develop an Active School Travel plan and activities include:

  • School Travel Plan
  • weekly active travel day - Walking Wheeling Wednesday
  • walking school bus
  • park and stride
  • road safety skills
  • active travel maps
  • public transport orientation sessions
  • bike skills training
  • car pooling

The following schools within Calamvale Ward are Active Travel Schools and have participated in the program: Algester State School, Calamvale Community College, Forest Lake State School, Grand Avenue State School, Pallara State School, and St Stephens School.
